International Chess Day Camp-cum-Challenge for Advanced Players

The programme is tailored for adanced level learners (Upper Primary - P3-P6) to equip children with the psychological and strategic skills needed for high level competitive chess. The programme will also highlight the importance of character and traits of a good chess player. The camp is meant to combine theoretical knowledge, psychological & character building, with fun chess practice. This year's workshop is dedicated to Singapore's 50 year anniversary and it will focus on highlights of Singapore chess, past and present.

Guest Trainers and Masters:
The training will be conducted by three experienced international masters and grandmasters invited by NYPS. Additionally, a special guest will deliver a brief motivational talk prior to the tournament.

Tournament Details:
7-round Swiss system individual event; 25 minutes per player, recording of moves is optional; players not recording shall have no right of claim in a dispute. In case of ties, WP, SB and PS shall be used in this order; Zero-Start shall apply.


  • 22 individual prizes: top-10 trophies for Boys, top-10 trophies for Girls;
  • Two fair play medals for most sportive competitors for each school; and
  • Top-3 trophies for best schools (based on the cumulated scores of the top 5 players from the same school in the final standings).

There are no charges for the International Chess Day-cum-Challege. However, all participants could purchase food and refreshment from the school canteen. There is a cap of maximum of 7 participants for each invited school.

NYPS Commitment:
Nanyang Primary will sponsor the cost of running the competition, training fees, usage of training and playing venue and assures proper conditions for learning and competition.

Participating Schools' Commitment:

  1. Make known to pupils the rules of the competition
  2. Appoint a teacher chaperone for each school team
  3. Each school could sign-up to a maximum of 7 players
  4. All pupils will wear the school's attire throughout the workshop
  5. Monitor the welfare and discipline of their school pupils
  6. Diligiently conduct an individual feedback form for each of their pupils from their school using a simple form provided by NYPS and return these forms to the NYPS teachers.
