
World Youth Chess Championships 2009
Dubbed the most prestigious youth championships in the world, the above event is organized by FIDE and the Turkish Chess Federation in Antalya, Turkey from 11 November to 23 November 2009. This year the event attracted 1,350 participants playing in the Under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 categories.
Round 1 started on 12 November and saw Lee Qing Aun (Open Under 8) scoring a solid win against his German opponent Theo Gungl rated 1682 and ranked 10 in the tournament. Ryan Ow Jun Wai (Open Under 10) managed a draw with his German opponent. Playing in the Open Under 12 category, Edward Lee Kai Jie took half a point away from India’s Ghosh Diptayan rated 2124. In the Open Under 16 section, cool and calm as usual, FM Terry Chua Zheng Yuan started the tournament win a win against South African Stefan Enslin.
