Supplementary Rules & Regulations

The Singapore Chess Federation and Kheng Cheng School take this opportunity to thank all participating
schools for the continued support.

  • Reporting Time – All teams are to report not later than 8.00 am both days. Registration is not required.
    All participants, on arrival should check the pairing list and take their seats at the respective board allocated.
  • Attire – All Participants shall wear their respective school uniform or PE attire. If they do not they may be
    barred from taking further part in the competition.
  • All mobile Phones and electrical devices should be turned off or put to silent mode. Any participants
    found to have infringed this rule shall be defaulted for that particular round. Teachers and non playing
    supporters will be asked to leave the school premises.
  • Parking of cars in the school compound is prohibited. School buses will be allowed into the school for
    alighting students and their subsequent pick up after the tournament.
  • General Discipline – All Teachers are responsible for the general well-being and discipline of their
    students under their charge. Participants flouting this rule will be removed from the competition
    and their schools’ principal informed in writing after the event. Ball games shall not be allowed for
    the duration of the championships.
  • Certificate of Participation and Achievement (Top 3 in each category) shall be presented to all participants.
    These certificates shall be available for collection by the respective schools two weeks after the completion
    of the event.
  • Zero Start Rule shall be applicable for these championships. Any player who arrives at the chessboard after
    the start of the session shall lose the game. Thus the default time is 0 minutes. The player may request to be
    reinstated for the next round.
  • Recording of Moves is not mandatory. Players who do not record may not be eligible to claim.
  • Score Sheets – All players must submit their score sheets to the section arbiters in charge, includin
    g players who do not record their moves. Both players are to report to the pairing officer immediately
    after their respective game. Any player who fails to submit their results shall be deemed to have lost the
    game (even if they had won the game). All wrong scores once submitted to the pairing officer cannot
    be reversed. Players are advised to exercise care in recording their socres.
  • Meals & Refreshments – All participants shall be responsible for their own meals. Kheng Cheng School’s
    vendors shall be opened on both days and teachers are requested to place their orders (if any) early.
    There are a number of eating houses and a food centre within a couple of hundred meters away from the
    school gate.
  • Appeals – Any disputes arising from a game shall be referred to the Section Arbiter or Chief Arbiter.
    An appeal to the Appeals Committee may be lodged (accompanied by an appeal fee of $50, refundable
    if the appeal is upheld) in writing within 15 minutes of the completion of the relevant playing session.
    As this is a National School event, only teachers are allowed to file appeals. In the absence of their teachers
    participants will lodge their own appeal. The ruling of the Appeals Committee is final and no further
    correspondences shall be entertained.

The 62nd edition in the series, this year’s National Schools Individual Chess Championships are
jointly organized by the Singapore Chess Federation and Kheng Cheng School. The Championships
shall be held on Saturday 13 March 2010 and Sunday 14 March 2010 at the Kheng Cheng School
along Lorong 3 Toa Payoh.  In the event there are ties for Championship title, the playoff will take
place on Monday 15 March 2010 at the Singapore Chess Federation’s premises in Bishan Community Club
from 2.00 pm onwards.

These Championships shall also be the last qualifying tournament for selection to our National Junior
Developmental Squad for year 2010. Players who missed out at the National Age Group Championships
2010 and who fails to make it from the Schools Individual will not be eligible for selection.
