Dear members of the chess fraternity in Singapore,
We have come to the close of chess calendar year 2016. SCF has seen an increase in chess participation through schools, community events and competitions in 2016. Our chess training arm has also seen significant increase in enrolments, especially for introductory lessons for beginners. On behalf of SCF, I thank your trust and support in us.
Our current player selection guidelines are undergoing review with SportSG and we expect to complete the Review by end Feb 2017. In the light of this, I have decided that the Exco will administer the selection of players which will still be based on current 2016 selection guidelines.
With this change VP John Wong will no longer be the Head of High Performance so that he can focus more time on SG chess outreach activities and Community Chess engagement programs. He has been actively involved in HPA activities since Sep 2016 as can be seen from some recent notable events which he spearheaded such as the National Schools Inter Teams Chess Championship, Admiralty Chess Championship and the recent Community Play Day 3 chess program @ Sportshub.
Our administration aims to strengthen our foothold in the local SG sports scene as well as raise standards of chess in Singapore for the coming 2017. We shall continue our good work.
I wish you Good Health and a Blissful 2017.
Leonard Lau,SCF President.
